Now this was not an easy task. Poor mommy and daddy... never agreeing on what to name me. And the brainstorming went on for months. (the whole family took part in it too) hehe.
Mommy is so specific. She wants to choose a bilingual name that doesn't sound different when pronounced in french and english. Why? Well because supposedly I will be going to english school and half the family is french and well... having it change tonality from one language to another doesn't float her boat. Daddy on the other hand, doesn't get it... so he just smiles and nods.
Lots of names they like, either in english or in french but didn't sound too good in the other language. Like these few choices :
- Tristan
- Lucas
- Miles
- Nathan
But then there were those that seemed a little more feasible for mission impossible momma had established.
- Liam
- Ryan
- Maverick
Momma was like... "Ryan is out of the question" (well because her first boyfriend was called that, and well... you know you just can't go that route.) But Liam and Maverick were the two names that really seemed to work. Liam was grandma Sissi's idea and Maverick was daddy's. Can you figure out where Maverick is from? Yup... Tom Cruise in the movie Top Gun.
After months of debate and polling the whole family... momma and daddy made a decision on what to call me. It wasn't easy... I am telling you. Even more so when they announced how they were going to spell it.
M-A-V-R-I-C-K (no E) why?
Well because my lovely french speaking family tend to overally pronounce the E in the name making, it sound completely different... so by taking out the E, it sounds rather similar in both french and english.
I love the idea... but let me tell you grandpa voiced his opinion about it and how "it's not nice, the name takes an E" of well... can't please everyone. I mean... he already gave me my nickname "Mavi" and it stayed. So now everyone is a happy camper.
Oh and you are wondering why they ruled out Liam... they didn't really. They figured if I was going to get a baby brother he would inherit that name. Pretty neat right?
